Better question might be, what's with the Gears love? I see way more people praising the way it looks than dissing it. The problem is the game ISN'T going to look like this. At least these aren't as bad of bullshots as the first shots of Gears 1...
These are bullshots, yes, but they only added AA. Animation and lighting beat Killzone 2, or at least what we've seen so far. They didn't manage to include screen-space ambient occlusion, I guess it's too expensive. It still looks great and on smaller levels will look even better.
It shows the 'disappointments' of what we've seen so far, but has gone on to suggest that the video we've seen is from an early build and that the magazine scans we've seen are a more accurate reflection of the game's visual state.
Not entirely relevant to the screens, but the video topic has been locked. :\

not really pointless. the game looks like the first. visually and gamplay wise (that later being both good and bad depending if you was a fan of the first or not). unless you consider these bullshots genuine, in which case they somehow have managed to squeeze 20XAA out of the 360 and it indeed looks better, but even then its only a marginal update. considering who are developing the game, and considering the 360 is on what? its 3rd or 4th generation of games. and there hasnt been much in terms of an improvement, it doesnt exactly fill me with confidence. i just expected more...but hell, carry on condemning people for thinking that.

The improvement in the lighting alone makes for a very large technical upgrade. The texture resolution and geometry count has also been improved. That you can't see this for yourself is both a testament to the workarounds that Epic used in the first game and I would guess a more casual attitude to a game you don't enjoy.
