DMC4: PS3/360 comparison
2008-01-24 17:42:35 by BlimBlim
Dot50cal sent us this nice comparison video of both demos of Devil May Cry 4 on PS3 and 360. Very slight differences indeed, but they exist. The WMV version has been encoded in very high quality.

when rendering at high resolution, especially with both AA and HDR.
However I don't see how that should affect texture quality, as from what I understand the textures themselves doesn't require that high bandwidth to store. Or is it so that they require high bandwidth to be rendered just like AA and HDR?
I do believe in what me7 wrote though, amount of avaliable memory should have a larger impact on texture quality than avaliable bandwidth as the textures has to be stored somewhere.
Should be slightly less noticeable in motion rather than screen shots but it's less than optimal for the PS3.

I think this is great. This comparison really shows what the "console wars" have boiled down to. "CLEARLY SUPERIOR" means the cracks on a dragon type boss are slightly more defined in still shots.
Well there's your victory. A bit like scoring one goal in the first half then waiting it out, playing like monkeys.
One of these days the actual games will start to matter, and we'll all feel so lost.

*nods*
The Hairy Nipple effect innit.
Whats sad here is that people are claiming that one is vastly better, when in actual fact that is what they are telling themselves to believe.
I can barely see a difference between the two, even when zooming in on the images, there are a few occasions the 360 version has slightly better textures, but its so minor its not worth mentioning.....
or perhaps it is *sighs*

you two need to get your logical thinking out of here!
You're making angry....you wouldn't like me when I'm angry. Just ask Jato, once and every day poster over here, but one day he made me angry. Well, lets just say things got ugly and you clearly noticed his inactivity for a while. However, it does warm my heart seeing him posting again. Looks like he has almost made a full recovery!

I'd definitely take that blurring AA over no AA any day.

Okay I got my 360 back and the first thing I did was to download DMC4 on 360 and have it side by side (i didnt know how to add that feature on my tv :P) with the PS3 and this is MY conclusion.
Both looks great. There are parts were it needs alot of textures were PS3 lacks of, but there are also places were there is TOO much textures that it needs to be reduce were PS3 is good at to keep it low.
Both looks identical for sure, the only thing I notice is the textures.
360 has simple a bit better than PS3 simple as that.
But like I said, there are places were they need to take away much of the textures so it looks more natural than put it bunch of it...so that part fails a bit.
Now to the controls...I am sorry but I prefer DualShock controller.
It felt light, easy to get the hang of it, the buttons are perfectly layed out close to eachother to quickly press the buttons that is needed.
The 360 was too big and the buttons are too seperated for such a game.
The bumper on 360 is very qwierd and seperated compared to the PS3 version.
Final decision...if you want graphics to be a BIT better, go with the 360, if you want good controls but yet look good enough to go "wow" then go with PS3.
Graphics are identical anyway, there are places that it was like I had 2 consoles of each and I was comparing same game on the same console :P
One thing I did not like about the 360 version about it's graphics was the color, it was sharp and all yes, good. But it looked strange, compared to the PS3 version. It looked I don't too much of a mess that you can hardly see the details.
For example look at the health gaude and Neros sword power, I prefer the PS3 version because it looks clean and clear to look at, while the 360 has too much details that the rest of the design looks like a mess.
Anyway, that was my view on the game, atleast I know what version to buy anyway.
Now that my friend comes over we both can play the DMC4 demo and compete who ends the timer demo and beats Berial fastest :D

But in all seriousness, I just prefer the DuaclShock controller for these type games. These type of games are fast and all, and I would like all the buttons to be close to eachother for fast movements and big ass combos...if lucky :P
After NG Sigma on PS3, I prefer that, same goes with DMC4.
So I have to make a way to learn to fight with the 360 controller considering NG2 is for 360 :P
PS. The Berial scene, both versions looked great, but obviously for textures and a bit more details, 360 takes the cake, but the colors...no, I didn't like it that much.
Ah well, comparisons, brings people closer :P

Yeah no need for the mouse :p but come on guys think about the possibilities. You could put all the fighting moves to different key's! So awesome ;)
Somehow this reminded me about that I played PC version of Metal Gear Solid 2 with pad without analog sticks. Good thing that d-pad didn't suck :P
Don't want to start anymore controller wars but in some hack and slash games (Diablo) keyboard & mouse actually are the ultimate controller :D

Grift, i did play NG with S-type...but I guess it was long time ago I played a game like this so I am not used to it.
But believe me...with NG2 soon coming out, once I play it for 5-10 minutes, I will get the hang of it, and it will feel natural for me to play with a control like that.

I thought it was impossible to tell how much games took systems power :P
So I have heard that Trophy Bass 4 takes 1.7% of GBC full system power. I heard that the same game uses all of the 360 power. 360 is as good as dead now...

DAMN this thread got long quick.
I only have a 360... good enough for me.
But I've been dying to play this series, glad it finally came to a system I own :D
BTW you might want to download firefox. It has a built-in spellcheck.

P.S I also have both systems and i have played the demo for both. Both systems are using HDMi and are on my Bravia 40in 1080p <--<3 . My comparison is that the 360 is much more sharp and has brighter features than the ps3. But the ps3 is still just as good.(and yes the controller does feel better for ps3 because the R1 Button is bigger and feels natural) even though the 360 has sharper image, the movie scenes dont seem to play as smooth(dont get me wrong they play fine but not as smooth) the ps3 movies play very smooth even though there may be some little laggy spots but thats because(im not sure)i think its loading while the movies play to save load time. but to me it still plays smooth. all the parts in the 360 movies where the ps3 movies are faster, seem to be a bit slower. Now here is my problem even though the 360 version has better picture quality. There is something i like about the ps3 versions.(i think maybe because its not as bright on certain areas??)so it gives the game a more gothish vampire look which is good. So can anyone help me choose. I did buy the 360 version already, but i am able to easly swap it and get the ps3 version instead. P.S I am very anal that is why i hate the graphic wars. makes life hard for me. ::sighs:: Also its hard to chose because i like that the 360 version movies arent as smooth, because it gives it a more real feeling. Where the ps3 movies move very smooth which makes it seem very gamish. but for game play itself the ps3 has the upper hand to me because of the less shinies. So i think if they both combined with each it would be perfect :D

360 version is definitely the best all around. No install with fast loading times. 60 frames a second. Better controller. RUMBLE. I can't tell you how important rumble is to the gameplay and incredible cutscenes. That alone puts the 360 version miles ahead of the ps3 version. Fact. Also, 360 version has in-game music streaming. Live. Chat. Friends list. Real Achievements. etc. etc. And it uses AA to remove jaggiez instead of a cheaper blurring of everything to mask it, resulting in blurry-looking textures--what the PS3rd version does. And that's the truth. Let's not be fanboys here, guys. Be realists.

the ps3 version has the framerate in cutscenes at 60 but it tends to drag down quite a bit and ends up looking like a bad framerate in the cutscenes at times, but the 360 version is locked at 30 and has sharper, more defined textures....ill take 360.
