Hmmm... So a band of redneck cultists. And I see that the bow is back as well. Also, you will probaly be able to give orders to that dog/wolf, or have other companions. Still, this all feels so unoriginal. Maybe the game will be very fun, but the setting and period is not creative at all, specially when considering the franchise.

With the exception of Blood Dragon - a humorous spin-off DLC - and Far Cry: Primal, all numbered games were set during modern times. Far Cry 1 was set on a South Pacific archipelago, Far Cry 2 was set on a failed Central African state, Far Cry 3 was set on a tropical island between the Indian and Pacific Oceans, and Far Cry 4 was set on Kyrat, a fictional Himalayan country.

While there is a consistency, it also means that arsenal is basically the same. Sure there will be different weapons, but most likely nothing that will make this game stand out from the other games. And that's the problem, if this is just another "re-skin", albeit more prettier, then why not just go buy Far Cry 3 or 4 for very cheap and play them?

I really hate to sound like I hate the game when Ubisoft hasn't even released a single image of its gameplay, but I keep going back to that 2014 survey, and how much fun it would have been to play a Far Cry game in those settings. And then we get this, an absolutely generic Far Cry game setting, one that is very similar to all the ones in all the 4 mainline games.

Makes me wonder what even was the point of releasing that survey then? Just to make people wonder, imagine and hope for a very different setting and tone for a game of the franchise just so we got this instead. Even the damn main villain at the middle looks like an American version of Pagan Min, Far Cry 4's main villain.

For comparison's sake, below is the 1st Far Cry 4 Key Art as well here on Gamersyde:

Completely different, right?

Well. One is flamboyant and asian, they look pretty different to me, and it's all in the characterisation anyway. Until we see this guy its kinda hard to compare..

I mean, what are we expecting to change when it comes to super evil leaders grounded within a realistic setting? Bad guys wear standard clothes, there will always be some cross over. Evil guys dont get special shirts and shoes from the evil guy store...and we certainly dont need this turning into final fantasy or something with leather, capes, belts and chains with gravity defying hair in some attempt to make them seem unique.

Religious christian cult nut jobs is a pretty refreshing villain tbh. I'm sure its gameplay will ruin it though.

Well, to start, the expression of both is practically the same. And the eyes - and I'm fully aware you and others will make fun of this, so go ahead - of both do look the same as well.

As for a different take, they could have used a woman for starters. To anyone who thinks this is about Political Correctness, you can go fuck right off, I'm just saying this because all the main villains were male, so the most obvious different thing you could make is change the gender. Same for ethnicity.

Then you could have him in a different position and have different things on the Key Art image, like not having another submisble character dow on the floor, not have the exact model of Rocket Launcher ammo as well. They also have similar suits, one with a pink suit and white shirt, and the other with a black suit and white shirt. Though these are just artwork differences.

Religious Christian cult nut jobs might be different, but religious cult nut jobs isn't. I have played hundreds of games in which you fight against religious cult nut jobs, specially in RPGs. That only loses to corrupt company nut jobs and kingdom/empire power-hungry nut jobs.

Anyway, I've played all of the Far Cry games, from 1 to 4, Blood Dragon and Primal. Far Cry 5 will have a different setting and story, but if the rest is very similar, it will feel like a re-skin instead of a new game.

Still, I will play Far Cry 5, because I actually had a lot of fun with both Far Cry 3, 4 and Blood Dragon. And I'm sure there will be more additions to Far Cry 5 that will make the game a least fun to play.

Plus.. at this point the over-the-top antagonist is the individual theme that connects Far Cry games.

Bu this measure GTA5 is a reskin of GTA3.

Not the same type of comparison, because GTA 5 has far more differences than similarities with GTA 3, but I get what you meant. Though Far Cry games, like Assassin's Creed games, are much more similar to each other than other franchises' games.

The franchises that have very different games from each other are franchises like Final Fantasy, where even the core gameplay elements are very different than the ones in previous entries. Basically, almost everything is different or acts in a very different way.

It's more like a revolution/transformation of the core gameplay systems, rather than just an evolution.

Far cry needs to make some big changes with this one. Even AC occasionally had big changes, specifically ac3 and then again with unity, despite their huge flaws and most of the changes were not great at least they changed a lot of things like combat, animation system etc. quite dramatically

I dunno, it looks different enough to me. I mean, the wilderness setting is one of the key themes for the Far Cry franchise.

Is this going to be like bioshock3? With the cults and religious bigots. Some how I find that to be the subject in the picture.

Again...everyone is bitching and they just saw one fu*king picture. Just wait for the game..... Like if any other FPS games are so damn original. What do You want? Weapons from the Redneck Rampage category, or what? I'm glad, this is gonna be from more familiar environment than tropic islands or Himalayan mountains. Can't wait to ambush their "Mighty God" camp with the tractor and .22.

This was definitely a surprise to me, i though for sure they would go completely nuts with far cry 5 and finally do the jurassic park style game that so many people want. But they can also go nuts with this one as well but in a definitely way obviously

That's right...the picture is not complete and it's actually sort of Last Supper of the Lord or how it is called in english. Nice idea.

It's about the tone of both images, and the impression you get from both main villains. They give the same tone and impression to me. I actually had a lot of images and wallpapers with that Far Cry 4 artwork, not to mention the fact that they used it - as it was the cover art for the game - in almost every article about the game or te franchise.

So it's something I have seen hundreds of times. And the first impression I got from the Far Cry 5 artwork was the same tone and main villain impression. Though it is fair to say that's a trademark of the Far Cry franchise, as can be seen on this one with Vaas from Far Cry 3:

http://www.gamersyde.com/pop_images_far_cry_3-1868...

They all have that same "completely crazy psychopath" look. Though I understand that for people who aen't very familiar with the franchise might not get it. It will vary from person to person.

I'm actually quite excited for the trailer reveal tomorrow. As unlikely as it may be, I really hope Ubisoft releases a gameplay trailer or walkthrough as well. They sometimes do this alongside a trailer reveal, but they might decide to save it for their E3 press conference or Sony's/Microsoft's. Which is fine, since it's only a few weeks away.
