Xbox 360

Bungie has entirely redone its Halo 3 website, and has uploaded a lot of multiplayer screenshots of the beta (still planned for the 16th of May). You may have seen them before in scans or else, but never in such a good quality. So, even if they might not be accurately representative of Halo 3's current state, it's still a pleasure.

Yeah, I remember seeing a couple of these a while back.. I think it remains to be seen just how much better the beta looks, but we'll find out soon enough. Snoopers already mentioned that they are indeed old.. just better quality than some of the releases that we've seen previously.

Holy shit, do those look good! I mean, I've seen these before, but now in such a high resolution? Let's just say, hats off to the concept artists and renderers. Environments look amazing, especially Snowbound.
I love this one the most:

Yeh my first reaction is that it looks a lot like halo and halo 2 combined....but then the more you look at them, you realise that it actually looks much better. They've gone back to a more halo 1 style but obviously improved everything. I'm actually pretty impressed, especially since this is multiplayer and the maps are pretty open, like they don't have all the blind spots everywhere like in halo 2 so that they could only render the stuff that you were actually looking at. And up close the Spartans look great up close and the worthog looks much better than ever. Its funny cause i would have sworn i saw some of these before and that they were labelled as alpha shots.

As has been said by Bungie itself, the screengrabs you see here are bare terrain without the smaller details - grass, shrubbery, etc. Also, it seems that the lighting engine isn't in as refined a state as what was seen in the launch trailer (i.e. fixed aperture rather than HDR lighting) but that's pure speculation. I fully expect that the earth's crust will compact a full centimeter on H3's launch from all the gamers of the world's jaws dropping in unison.

it's hard to go crazy over this shots but it's the gameplay that counts. so i hope for highly destructable environments and convincing object physics! anything less would be a Halo 2.x

When I first saw these images in its lower resolution, I must admit that I was one of many who thought that the screens were nothing more impressive than Halo2. Halo2's graphics were good, but this is Halo3 and it's going to be on a much more technologically superior piece of hardware. Now I must say that for an alpha build, those graphics look bad ass even with its stripped down graphic effects that will be present in the final build. It's amazing how different the game looks in these higher resolution screenshots. So the question I have now is why did the boneheads over at Bungie not release these images in the first place. Stupid............

I'm thankful they're bringing back the environments from Halo: Combat Evolved. The mighty, open areas with grass and trees - that's how Halo shall look. The indoor environments have always been boring from a design stand point...

I hope it will be alot more detailed grass, environments and stuff though. But this is just a beta version, I guess we'ill get crazy when the final build screenshots are released. That's what I expect.

Halo 2 single player adventure kinda sucked, I hope this will be more like Halo 1...

Even if those are old shots they do look good when in hi-res ! Theres some nice texture/geometry work going on. If the finished product matches this or is even better ill be pleased.

Um its not gonna look as great as some other FPS but Halo isnt played for graphics anyway. To me it looks its stuck in a time warp between last to next gen. Also i dont really see Bungie giving it a good graphical bump before the release either, their liking to just fine tune the gameplay and stuff like that.

With all the money M$ has, you'd think Bungie could afford some of Epic's artists. I really hope the final game looks better than this. I remember Franky saying that Halo 3 was going to have amazing graphics. Maybe I've been playing too much Gears of War.

Bungie needs to show us some amazing SP screens, soon.

I think it really looks good, and it's not even the finished product, which will look better . . .. .who cannot be happy about this?

after all, don't forget what great games the Halo's are . . ....

Looks like Halo 2 HD. Too clean. They should add some lighting and dof. Hopefully final product will deliver.

I think what disappoints people is that at first glance it does look a lot like halo 2...it doesn't have an immediate "next gen" difference about it. But i think what people have to realise is that they have tried to keep the same art style as the other halo's, that sort of almost a drawing look.
The more you look at the pictures the more you notice the amazing lighting and sharp textures, and this is multiplayer. While i don't expect the single player to look as good as say crysis, i'm very much looking foreword to the much more open spaces than that were in halo 2 singleplayer.

The close up of the Spartan model and the textures in the background are on par with the original trailer. Nice work.
