One would think that any fan of Half-Life, Deus Ex, Halo or most of BioWare's projects, would be ecstatic about BioShock. Each of these developers (Valve, Ion Storm, Bungie and Bioware) has credited the System Shock series as being the inspiration for their own visions with emphasis on the narrative within and/or the open gameplay.

Having the key people responsible for System Shock return to create the series spiritual successor, should have been calls for rejoice by millions of fans who have benefited, whether directly or indirectly, by the numerous contributions this team has made to modern videogaming over the years. They are about to do it again, cause enough for celebration.

I just can't get excited about this game :( I'm not a fan of Sci-Fi and this is just too 'out there' for me.

It does look incredible though don't get me wrong... just not the type of genre i go for... kudos for originality though. :)

I would love to comment further on this as it's been through here and gone (don't look on our site if you're wanting to avoid potential spoilers) . However, I had almost zero interaction with is as it was dealt with by others.

All I can say is that everybody who played it is probably buying it. They were most impressed.

There's been so many previews of this game I'm not sure what there is that's new I could tell you. The realisation of Rapture and the story are particular highlights I'm told however :-) One person described it as "Graphically sumptuous and thematically intriguing" and cited influences of HG Wells, Lewis Carroll, Jules Verne and Metropolis contained within.

Largely my organisation is comprised of film buffs and rather exacting ones at that. For them to praise a game for it's setting and cultural influences is quite something I think. Definitely a world away from the space marine shoots aliens idiom used in most FPS'

I think it'll be one of the more critically acclaimed games of the year.

Yeah thats understandable. Who knows, if I enjoy FF12 I may give Blue Dragon a shot. My only gripe with JRPG's is the combat system but Im willing to play the game anyway.
