Its like people ripping on ue3, saying all ue3 games look alike while praising some other gaöe on the same wngine. Artists, programmers and level designers are to blame in 90% of the cases, at least :P
Well then I will blame here the only the Artists and Modelers and the people that have to do with the "look" of the game.

99% of them in fact.

Like I was saying to Sath, show me a UE3 game that renders good metal, eveyr gun, every gadget, everything that has some metal in it it doesnt look like metal to me at all, looks more like some piece of wood painted to look like metal lols.

Yep, Lost Odyssey looked pretty damn different from your usual UE3 game, and so does the Batman games.

Borderlands and mirrors edge are two other ue3 fueled games that certainly have their own looks as well.

Duno, i remember the bull shots b4 the current gen was revealed, no games lived up to it except crysis... which was on PC...

Expect next gen to look like crysis maxed out on pc. Which is fine by me.

Nah, come on. It's gota be better than Crysis. Even if you used low end components of today you'd get a big boost in hardware specs, and the next gen consoles aren't gonna ship untill sometime late next year at best. Well, wii-u asde that is.

The video is mind blowing, there isn't a single pre-baked light source in that video. All the lighting is dynamic. I know console exclusive gamers haven't seen real time lighting before but as a PC gamer I can assure you that it is spectacular. I mean the lighting here is on another level, even better than Metro 2033 or Crysis with mods. Games running on this engine will look mind boggling on a HD Tv

I just hope the next gen consoles are powerful enough to run these engines at 1080p @ 30 FPS locked with tripple buffering. BTW I understand why you think the Luminous engine is better (the skin shaders, hair etc in that video is beyond what's shown here :P)

isnt the lighting in killzone real-time and dynamic? i know when you shot a gun it would cast shadows, i know every light sorce, no matter how small cast shadows and illuminated nearby objects. deferred rendering i believe? or am i not understanding you properly?

Very impressed by this engine.

I still prefer id tech 5 or Cry Engine 3 but it sure looks insane in this video.

In Killzone a few light sources are real time but the overall world lighting rendering is fake/pre-baked. The gunfire casts real time lighting, the helghast's helmets cast real time lighting on the environment (in Killzone 2) but that's about it....

The next Killzone will have 100% real time lighting and as a result it will look extremely impressive. Think about it...you could have dynamic day/light cycles, a more coherent level design (if the PS4 has enough ram) without levels being broken into smaller chunks.

Something tells me to not to expect that :D

As much as I want to see 1080p on consoles, I would probably rather have lots of particle effects, real time global illumination and crazy water, cloth and destruction physics.

Bah, xbox 1.5 stuff :P

Yea, to hell with 1080p. Why limit our games by making them 1080p? Stick with 720p, and just go nuts on the effects and such. We should reach a point where the only way you can tell that our games are actually games, is all the unrealistic sparks and exaggerated particle effects that you see :P

Agreed!

As much effects as possible, a game like Bayonetta next gen would completly melt my brain!

Tbh, it all depends on how much RAM they give the consoles, most GPU's have been doing gaming at 1080p 30 - 60fps for years. The problem is they require huge amounts of memory, most cards are at least 1gb now, and often require 1.5- 2gb depending on how much AA and how high quality textures you use. Then you have to hold game logic, animations, system OS and god knows what else with the way social gaming is heading next gen.

Consoles need about 4gb shared RAM to do 1080p and improve IQ over what we have this generation, 2gb just won't cut it.

There's just no fuckin excuse for that. You can purchase two fast 4GB DDR3 modules for under $40USDs at retail right now, the cost to Microsoft and Sony would probably only be a third of that at the manufacturers wholesale level. That's right, just $13 frakin dollars! They can load up on fast memory at a very cost effective level for the next gen consoles.
