Loakum Ugh….scratch that previous comment. The upcoming Game of Thrones video game is a F’in mobile phone game. Why can’t they came an open world GoT game, like Witcher 3 or God of War? (> 3 Months ago)

Since 7469 DaysAlso, he basically said in that video what I've been saying. Conviction was a sort of reinvention of the core basics of stealth gameplay for the series (for the better, I feel), and it would only be obvious that once they nailed that down and executed on it with one game, that they would now obviously be in a better position to expand on it in ways that probably please folks who want more stealth options. However, at least the story of Conviction justified the changes made.
With this game now, the improved core basics of stealth from Conviction are now being expanded upon with a number of options that should likely end up making this game even better, but somehow I have doubts that regardless of how good this game is, that it will actually ever get the credit it probably deserves. How the gameplay comes together with the level and mission designs will probably be end up being the determining factor of how good the game is, though, and I hope the story is at least as good as it was in Conviction, because normally I could care less about Splinter Cell stories, but I really liked the one in Conviction. The stuff with his daughter was handled amazingly, and I think anybody that beat it would agree, at least I hope :)

Since 7469 DaysQuizzed on the apparent new focus on action, Wilson said: "One of the things that we're building into the game is choice, choice of the way you play. If you want to take the action approach then you can, but you can stealth through the game as well.
"We have multiple paths and ghost paths where you can stealth your way through. We've shown a very small snippet of the game and we're going to be showing a lot more over the coming months where we'll be demonstrating all of those things and the way in which player choice manifests."
But will stealth elements be few and far between?
"Stealth is going to operate in the traditional way you would expect it to. I think people will definitely see that when they see more hands-on time," said Wilson. "We're not just bright daylight in the Middle-East. We've got locations all over the world. There are a tonne of locations that are at night as well, so the traditional night-time gameplay is coming back. It's all in there."
And in response to fans questioning if Blacklist is taking too many influences from the likes of Call of Duty, Wilson concluded: "Splinter Cell is Splinter Cell. It's not Call of Duty and never will be. It's a very separate intention that we've got with this game."
Splinter Cell: Blacklist will be released in 2013 for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Ubisoft hasn't confirmed its plans for Wii U.

Since 7469 DaysDevelopers may outright exaggerate about how good their games are going to be in specific areas, but they don't outright lie about what's actually in their game. If they say there are traditional night-time gameplay sections, then they are in there. If they say you can play through using stealth, and that there are multiple paths that you can use, then they are most likely telling the truth about that, too, because contrary to what some may want to believe, you can already play through Conviction like that, but for some odd reason, people seem to find it too difficult? I can't really explain it, to be honest. It will be up to us players to determine how well they execute on their promises, but I believe it because it was actually in Conviction, and this game is suppose to expand on it.
The level design was awesome in Conviction. There were quite a few ways to approach an objective, or go through a level.
I don't expect the game to suddenly be worse off in areas that they are clearly focused on expanding upon coming off Conviction. The one area where I don't expect this game to match or exceed Conviction, is in the story. I thought the story of Conviction, and the way it was executed overall was the best any Splinter Cell game has ever seen. The story angle around his daughter was handled surprisingly well. Sam is actually back to working for an organization again, one he seems to run this time, Fourth Echelon. That alone should lead to more "official looking" missions. In Conviction, it was Sam on his own personal mission, that turned into something greater. Either way, I'm looking forward to this one, because Conviction was awesome.

Since 7469 DaysIt was a fantastic way to reboot the franchise and vastly improve upon the core stealth gameplay. Previous splinter cells felt like fake, gimmick stealth, whereas in this game it actually felt real. They did more with less by making the core of the gameplay stronger. The previous Splinter Cell formula of just continuing to add more and more gadgets, without making any of the tough decisions that needed making, was running its course, and would have doomed the franchise, if not for the direction they took with Conviction.
I look at this the same way I looked at Fifa 08 when they introduced that brand new animation system that changed what it meant to be a true soccer videogame for the better. Fifa has only gotten better and better with every new game since then. I look at it the same way i did when NBA 2K, against the wishes of most of their fans, implemented that entirely new animation system that would change the feel of the gameplay for the better in the long run. Some complained, saying that it hurt the gameplay, and it was a terrible attempt to appear more realistic, that you weren't really playing the game, that you were just getting stuck in an animation and then watching it as it played out. Now I highly doubt anyone have any issues with the direction they took. I think the new animation system came with NBA 2k9. I believe 2k8 was similar to gameplay and animations present in the dreamcast games, if I'm not mistaken.
That's all that Ubisoft did with Splinter Cell. Made some tough choices with Conviction that will go on to benefit this franchise in ways that people originally didn't think possible at the time. I know many who never thought NBA 2K could feel as awesome with that new animation system as it does now since they've had a chance to refine it so much more with 2K12.

Since 7698 DaysI just can't watch those developer walkthroughs anymore, or the "behind the scenes" with a bunch of pr marketing bullshit they spew, I feel all that it's too played out now--like I'm too old for that shit.
So in short I agree w/ manthatyoufear, I saw very little of Splinter Cell in Conviction, but I also thought it was a great game.

Since 7469 DaysI really look forward to see what they have to show on the stealthier aspects, but I hope they don't show too much, and end up spoiling any surprises, but it's obvious at this point that they'll have to show something spoiler worthy to quell concerns. The cover mechanic in conviction is also sooo damn awesome. I really can't get enough of the way Sam moves around the environment.
