Is it a good idea to buy a PS4 pro when you own a HDTV? Considering Pro is all about 4k and HDR

Sony already talked about HDTV compatibility and better visuals ... But how much better?? Does it worth buying when you already have a PS4?

Well Tomb Raider has a 1080p unlocked frame rate version for the Pro so, ya, it will be worth it for some games, but not all. Depends on the developer as always.

They can/might super-sample some games at 1080p too, which would further their image quality over the non-Pro version. And the can improve some of the baseline settings over the original console. I think there's room to grow at 1080p. And I know they said that games will mostly play at the same framerate, but they're talking about target framerates. I imagine the PS4 Pro will iron out some inconsistencies in older games too.

That might not be compelling enough to force an upgrade, but I think Sony is thinking about new customers, not converting old ones.

Well considering your point of view it is smart to wait for games to come out first .. right?

Exactly ... When you already have a PS4 It is hard to convince yourself to buy a pro , Imagine a PS4 user with a HDTV .. It seems unnecessary to buy a pro in that situation.

supersampling. it'll be running at 1800p (tomb raiders native res) (this will depend on the dev and what they can squeeze out of it), and then downscaled to 1080p reducing pretty much all jaggies. think of it as a brute force AA solution.

And not just down-scaling but improved anti-aliasing settings and more aggressive quality settings could make the Pro beneficial to 1080p users. I think it's a fair question though and I think we will only really know for sure once people can start doing hands-on/side-by-side analysis.

Think of it like a PC upgrade. Do you have to upgrade your monitor when you buy a new graphics card? No. There is no reason to buy a 4k tv just because you're upgrading your console. If you have an 1080p television and are satisfied with it, then keep it and upgrade your PS4. You will benefit from super sampling of games that are rendered in native 4k, which will result in less aliasing in games. Games that are rendered naively at 1080p will greatly benefit from the increase in GPU power of the PS4 Pro as well. Although I don't think many games will render at 1080p given Sony's 4k push with the console. So, I wouldn't count on that being common.

Personally, I would want more control over convenience. In other words, I would want to be the one to determine what resolution the game runs in and not leave it up to the developer to decide. I would go the PC route and not even bother with the PS4 Pro. I'd rather run all my games in 1080p or 1440p at 60hz, versus 4k at 30hz.

I am very happy with my PS4 Pro. The difference in Battlefield and Ratchet is amazing on 1080p. Just bought it for maximum 1080p quality.

Made a vid of the Battlefield 1 opening on the Pro @ 1080p/60 fps

I thought so too, but I'm not reading anything about 60fps framerate anywhere, so I'll just go with controller preference until they release it on PC and then I'll double dip.

I guess you mean Xbox? It'll run better on the regular PS4 than Xbox :D

Having played the Judgement demo on both XB1 and PS4, it came down to controller preference. The biggest difference between the 2 is resolution, and the XB1 resolution didn't offend me or my family. ;D

Seems like it struggles to keep pace at 30 fps on the regular PS4 according to the post on the front page.

Then I guess the question is whether the performance differences on the Pro are worth buying a brand new console for? Which I hoped would be the case. I guess I'll reserve final judgement until Square actually release that dedicated Pro patch they've been talking about and then maybe reconsider.
