Movies you watched recently

So, what movies did you watch recently? Here are my latest DVD rents ;

The Host : I remember reading good comments about this Godzilla-like flick and that it was funny. Well guess what? It's absolute garbage and not the least entertaining. Avoid at all cost.

28 Weeks Later : I'm a big fan of 28 Days Later and zombie movies in general. So I was excited to rent the sequel as I did not go to the theatres for it (I only go for extraordinary looking movies, else I can wait for the DVD release). I know people there are two camps, those who prefered the first and say the sequel is shit and the others who prefer the sequel to the original. Well, ok It's not as black and white, there are also those who like the sequel but still prefer 28 Days. My verdict is the following : I really enjoyed the movie. Very good entertainment, and as I watched The Host and this one back to back, It even felt better.

The opening scene is 10 minutes of pure bliss. Unfortunately, the movie does not live up to the intro and only go downhill from there, although it has its moments. I will spoiler tag some of them in case you did not watch the movie ; the helicopter slaying was really cool, even if not realist. I also like Doyle and how he die helping the kids escape in the car. Flamethrower ftw! But poor Doyle, me liked him =(.

My main problem is how retarded some of the dialogues are and decisions made by the military. I mean, they bring a woman which has been infected but did not die, place her into a medical lab with absolutely no security whatsover and the only military guys do not have guns there!? What? I was really surprised when the father (more on that later) killed some military dudes in the lab.

At some points, the kids escape the "green zone" and it's really stupid how easy they go to the dangerous area. At least, they are caught by Doyle and other guys, which I liked, but the whole "mother-did-not-die" thing was bad so...oh well. I think the pace of the movie was perfect. Once again, there is gore, but not as much as I wanted (I'm crazy). The whole outbreak could have been avoided IMO. Also, they shot really poorly the scene where people are confined to a big room in the lab, isolation area? And it's funny how there is a bunker for important people, but not citizens. WTF?

The little kid needed to die so much faster. What an annoyance. I feel they kinda missed a good opportunity to have a shocker ending too ; they should have forced the sister to kill her brother with the sniper and be the only key to the vaccine, but no, they wanted both alive that sucks. Would have been brutal is she headshotted her bro lol. And I'd like to add the whole father-is-chasing-us-even-if-he-is-an-infected really was lame, cheezy and stupid at the same time.

All in all, I'd give this movie an 7.5 for trying. But I really enjoyed it, in some cases more than the first, but overall 28 Days is a better experience which was fresh. It kinda feels what I think would happen if World War Z happened. Give it a rent.

I watched...

War of the Worlds
Resident Evil: Extinction
Alien vs Predator

I have seen WOTW and AVP before a few times, have the on DVD.

But my latest to be a NEW movie, its RE: Extinction.
Most definitely better than the first two...however the second one was only grat because Jill Valentine was in it.
But I am gonna get it on Blu-Ray when its out.

I want to see The Kingdom, but they wont show it in theaters were I live, not that close anyway, a bit of a problem to find it.

I might check out Serenity again today, who knows.

And obviously I am gonna buy Transformers as well, but in regular version (fucking HD-DVD exclusivity)

Blood Diamond (Absolutely Fantastic Movie - Leonardo Dicaprio & Djimon Hounsou)
Honeymooners (with Cediric the entertainer, Mike Eps, John Leguizamo)
Deja Vu (with Denzel Washington)
Yours, Mine & Ours.

If you haven't seen Blood Diamond you really should definitely one of the best movies I've ever seen and it draws attention to something that goes on till this very day.

Honeymooners I thought was pretty enjoyable and felt pretty close to the original subject material.

Deja Vu just another great movie Denzel did a fantastic job and the concept felt pretty original to me.

Yours, Mine and Ours just a very mild hearted Nickelodeon type movie. Think new-age Brady Bunch of sorts except not all angels.

Great movie indeed, but Jennifer Connelly...my god she was pure eye candy in that movie :D
Reminds me of Tea Leoni :)

I did forget to say that my recent movie I watched that was NEW to me was The Manchurian Candidate...was awesome. Twisted movie, took some time to figure out all the WTF places, but once you did, great movie.

Denzels performance was top notch in this one (not saying its his only one of course).

I'm going to rent Hostel Part II (lulz) this week, Mr Brooks and Blood Diamond as I did not see them yet. Next week will be Spider-Man 3 and maybe Daywatch. Didn't bother going to the theatres for 'em.

Ive recently watched :

The Invisible - I really like this movie, alot of people dislike it but i loved it, most probably because i imagined this is a film my girlfriend would love and i'd love to see it with her but shes away atm.

The condemned - a really crappy action movie, but it was good for killing some of my time.

3:10 To Yuma - An instant classic, and one of my favorites of all time after watching it, Christian Bale is officially the worlds greatest actor EVOR!

Sunshine: Suprisingly good although it did get a bit odd towards the end.

28 Weeks later: Very good although not as good as the original, some parts such as the strategies used by the US military made very little sense. And as Kudgel has pointed out some bits were just plain retarded.

Most recent:

The Kingdom: A really great movie, it builds up the story throughout and gives alot of background on the situation in Saudi Arabia. It does have some pretty intense action scenes but doesn't try to be unrealistic, it is not action throughout. Some of the best parts are when the FBI agents have to communicate with the Saudis assigned to protect them. If you like intelligent movies with action and a storyline then you will like this.

Kudgel I had the same problems with 28 Weeks Later as you did. I find it remarkable, that a city, occupied and run by the military, was essentially brought down by 2 british kids who managed to ellude security and leave the quarantine zone in the first place. And your exactly right, how could such a high risk woman have no security on her at all? Aside from that, i enjoyed it i guess. The night vision kill cam was neat. I guess Paris is next, though i doubt anyone will be sad to see it go. :P I KID.

In fact, the director said he would like to place the action in Russia for the third installment.

Well I liked RE Extinction quite alot, and I think that is going to be my first Blu-Ray movie...loved the atmosphere they went with, the whole abandon wasteland, tons of action, and Milla was really awesome in this one, the best perfomance of all three for sure.

She has that pissed off tom-boy girl face that fits her perfectly, and I love that.

Please define tons of action. Is waiting like 10-15 min for every action part considered "tons"?

Maybe a few very cool action scenes...the word "tons" was a bit too much, a few....yes a few, that is the word I should have used.

I watched ;

Spider-Man 3 : comedy gold with the EMO part. Cheesy dialogue, a really bad and unintentional funny movie. It's sad really.

Hostel Part II : worse than the first and less gory. My friend liked the ending, I have to agree it is unexpected, but the movie as a whole felt shallow.

2001: A Space Odyssey : I had never saw this classic, and omg @ second part. So many great scenes, and it was funny because while watching it, I remembered many jokes from the Simpsons that obviously came from this great movie.

Spiderman is *unintentionally* funny? Either you haven't seen the other two, don't know Sam Raimi, or can't pick up when a movie is tongue in cheek. Those movies know exactly when they tread the line between cheesy charm and outright stupidity.
