Plays ok on my pc as it's just a 10bit hevc video in an mp4. Although both the screens connected are only 8 bit so obviously I'm seeing it lower colour and kinda washed out. And it's pushing my cpu a bit as my r9 290he has no hevc acceleration. Those encoding times sound awful. Sounds like it's encoding in software and just using the cpu. Don't you have a graphics card with hevc acceleration built in? Should encode it much quicker.
Graphics card encoding takes a lot of shortcuts and look much worse than software encoding at the same bitrate. Also I don't think they can do hdr10.

Now even though I am not using an HDR monitor I can still see an enormous difference. It will only run at 2fps. But it still looks ridiculously colorful.

Question. If I am seeing it sort how it is supposed to be seen, does the rear of the Porsche look white at the beginning of the Abu Dhabi track? And does the sky look almost baby blue?

I will be watching this later in the week on a 4K set. But, I know I'm not crazy. I just compared your first Abu Dhabi video to this HDR video and I can definitely see a huge difference. The sky looks incredible and the tunnel section isn't as dark as the non HDR video.

BTW, I am viewing through windows 10 video player. I tried watching it through VLC to see if I could get the fps up and it looks like garbage. Washed out and grey like the videos everyone was posting earlier last week.

Works fine through a Sony UBP-X800 UHD Blu Ray player connected to a Sony 65X930E (65XE9305 to the Europeans). Video looks great and I thank you guys for putting in the work to get this to us. I hope that we can see more of this in the future but I understand that it's all up to the developers and publishers. And since they still seem to be, for the most part, relatively uninterested in delivering truly high quality media my hopes are low. This happening kinda as a mistake I think is testament to how disinterested they are.

All that being said, the game itself still just kinda looks like another Forza title to me with a nice layer of HDR paint on top. The shading used on the vehicle models and the lighting used still has a very "video gamey" look to me. It doesn't look as natural and true to life as GT Sport does. I DO like the physics applied to individual bits of the cars though (wiper blades, spoilers, antenna all wobble about), and the dynamic weather is a nice touch. The last scene of the second video with the sun peaking through the storm clouds is quite striking and probably the first time I've REALLY been impressed with the way a mainline Forza game looks. But overall I still find GT to be the more compelling sim from a graphics perspective.

I mention it in the news, I think the whites are too powerful on the Dubai video. I tried to changed the luminance in the HDR metadata, but as far as I can tell it's ignored by the players.

I think the more brighter whites in the first vid is due to how your TV tonemaps the feed, Oled TVs are gonna suffer due to low nit count whereas high end LCD TVs should fair much better due to well over 1000 nits of tonemapping capability. However night scenes would probably look better on the Oleds with no blooms and pure black.

I used SPMC, a fork of Kodi specifically optimized for the Shield. Though most of these optimisations are now in the latest mainline Kodi release.

Where can i see these Shadow of War videos? :)
The videos are in the link below:

http://gamersyde.com/news_e3_shadow_of_war_gamepla...

But ignore the "E3 Commented Gameplay Demo" as it's in 1080p, and as surprising as it is to say this about a 1.2 GB 7 minute video on Gamersyde, the quality is shit when compared to the direct feed 4K videos. So choose both "E3: Press conference gameplay #1 (4K 30)" and "E3: Press conference gameplay #2 (4K 30)" videos.

Also, if you're curious to see the difference, I recommend downloading all 3 videos and watching the 4K ones first, then watching the 1080p immediately after. You will hate the 1080p video's quality. It happened by accident with me and I was like: "Did 1080 always look this bad or was I blind?" lol

There's also the screenshots, who look incredibly gorgeous as well. Link below:

The 1080p video was straight from the publisher, and clearly not at the bitrate we use for our own stuff. Still, much better than youtube.

Yes, I thought of mentioning that, but decided not to after seeing the bitrate, it's 23 MB. But the source video seems to be lower, so the bitrate may be misleading.

However, the Metro: Exodus 1080p trailer on Gamersyde, while also being from the publisher, looks great in 1080p. But the direct feed 4K video looks far more beautiful. Though this is a very unfair comparison, direct feed with little to no compression vs highly compressed.

I'm sure that 1080p direct feed vs 4K direct feed comparisons will be more in line with just a visual upgrade, but unless you guys do it - there's no other place I've ever found for a proper comparison, it's hard to judge. Also, it needs to be a game with proper 4K support, with 4K assets, textures, etc. Like Far Cry: Primal in 1080p without the 4K pack vs in 4K with the 4K pack installed.

But please, I don't want to put more stuff in your guys' plate. No need to do this. I'm just mentioning as an example. I would have suggested comparing Metro: Last Light's 1080p videos you guys did back in the day, with the 4K ones you guys made recently, but the 1080p old videos are unavailable. Which makes sense, since they're from 2013 and 2014, and you guys had that HD loss with many old videos a few years back.

I don't think we'll do it for games where the embargo is too close to the release date. But if we have preview builds or review where we can put up videos long before the release date, and of course it's a much awaited game, then yeah it would be worth the time and effort.
Until we have a simple and "fast enough" tool chain to encode these, they will for sure stay exceptional.

Hello. I've tested them in a Samsung JS9000 using a USB directly to the TV Box but didn't see any lighting at all (Meaning, it looked all flat lighted). Any clue of what could I be doing wrong? Probably there's something that needs to be enabled somewhere.

Edit: I have UHD colors enabled for all HDMI sources. It looks better when I play it on my PC. Weird...

Was checking NeoGAF and they have a thread about Gamersyde's Forza Motorsport 7's 4K HDR videos (this news post). Link below:

NeoGAF - Forza 7 - 4k & HDR Courtesy of Blim (Gamersyde)!!! Must See!:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13938...

Seems like a lot of people are loving these HDR videos. I remembered from various Digital Foundry articles that they've said HDR improves the visual quality far more than the 4K jump in resolution.

Now I'm tempted to stick these on a USB and hijack - use it for a while - a 4K HDR TV in a store to watch both. Though if it does look insanely good, I will have to buy one. Between a rock and a hard place.

Does your TV support HDR? I looked it up and I guess it does. maybe there is a way to manually enable it.

Try mpv perhaps, it maps HDR to SDR in a pretty decent way.

Yes it does support HDR. It was 2016 top of the line.

It looks like it somehow recognizes HDR on PC when I use the Win10 native Media Player. It doesn't when I use other players (MPC HD i.e.) and using the internal TV player.

I'm guessing I'll have to make some adjustments on the TV while I'm on the internal player, but will have to try later since I'm @ work now.
