Dante's father is a demon named Sparda, the T is just crappy spelling on Splicer's behalf :)

"Anorexic mentally ill Dante isn't normal, but on Meth it is".
thanks bro, crappy spelling is what regurgitates from my fingers when i am annoyed like a pre teen school girl who got flipped by Justin Bieber

Am I the only one who thinks this is awesome?

I love the DMC series. Sure, it's not the Dante we all know and love and personally I was hoping to be able to play as DMC3/4-Dante. They changed the universe a bit and redesigned the character, but all in all it's the same over the top action, punk/bad-ass attitude and what-not.? So it gets thumbs up from me!

Now, Capcom, I want a PSP DMC3. Thank you.

i hope they can make an awesome gameplay and story which would make us ignore his gay look..
He looked gay to start with. Quite liking this new approach to the franchise. Need to see more gameplay before I can really judge it.

calaborating with ninja theory this means that gamers might get something few games in the genre have delivered: A GREAT STORY.
Heavenly sword didn't have a great story, and Enslaved is just Monkey slammed together with Tokyo Genso.

And Devil May Cry was never about story! Is the combat in Heavenly sword good? No. Enslaved? Even worse.

I think Ninja Theory are one of the few developers out there that are able to create beautiful stories with beautiful characters and settings. As they did with Heavenly Sword and Enslaved and the upcoming ODMC. Using state of the art camera-technology and Hollywood equipment. Good voice-overs and mocap and lots more. Real actors.

Gotta love monkeys.

It's obvious their games are not made for you. That's fine.

I agree that they are one of the few people who can create good stories, great original art designs, unique but weird...take that what you will.
Great mo-cap and voice acting.

I so wish the gameplay and combat is great considering that is what DMC is all about, that is where I have my doubts on Ninja Theory.
Western devs are mostly very bad in combat department compared to the Japanese devs, so it worries me.

@Sath

I agree, Japanese are better combat-wise, but we should not forget that one of the most loved game combat-wise is a western made game: God Of War

So in essence...it IS possible for western devs to do good combat. It's just that it's not often the case.

Japanese are more focused on gameplay/combat, while western devs like to focus on story and setting.

Capcom giving the franchise to Ninja Theory is a step which could lead to better western games. (or not depending on who you try to please). To me? I am happy with the choice and I couldn't want it differently. To others? It could be the worst thing, because people don't like big changes that much.
People cling to a certain game/character and thinking about another dev. giving that same game/character a rebirth, is to them a taboo.

So it all depends on the individual.

I hope they (Japanese devs and western devs) work together exchange their strong points and learn from eachother and that it may result into better games for as many people possible. (not just the fans)

People forget that..its not the fans that will keep the company running.

Money will.

God of War is good in combat, but it can never touch NG, DMC and Bayonetta, AT ALL.

But as western devs, God of War is the best one definitely, but I thought Darksiders was great as well, same goes to Dante's Inferno.

From what I know, 3 people from the original japanese dev team are working with Ninja Theory. That's a good thing.

Now, I understand that this transition does not give confidence to many, as, for example, when Silent Hill shifted to western dev teams, the series went down really hard (and now, as Yamaoka left too, even lower, I think). Well, except for Shatterd Memories, which, in my opinion, was awesome.

Let's hope for the best!

I don’t care how great their cutscenes, voice acting and motion tracking equipment are. I also don’t care if they redesign Dante as a Marty Stu for their creative director. While aesthetics inarguably support good game design, they are not what I play games for. The Devil May Cry series, which certainly was made for me, are action games. Not films. Action games.

My worry is this:

Ninja Theory’s last two action titles contained combat not even a touch on God of War.

I didnt mention Heavenly Sword, but it is true, God of War combat is definitely better than Heavenly Sword, though Heavenly Sword had beautiful moves here and there.

Well obviously it's not aiming to be a god of war nor ng nor a bayonetta.

Again stop comparing it and accept the change already.

No more action you are used to from DMC.

More story.

Which is not ur cup of tea.

Ur not the only one worried. I am worried too.

Lets all worry together.

Ummm... guys. Chill. I said in an earlier post that there are 3 members from the original japanese dev team also working on the project...

Anyway, here's something from Ninja Theory's site:

"From its debut on PlayStation 2 in 2001, the Devil May Cry series has been synonymous with stylish action, rewarding combat and a brash, smart-talking protagonist. This ‘Devil May Cry DNA’ remains but is now injected with a dark and brutal gameplay that promises to redefine the franchise. Set against a contemporary backdrop, DmC will depict a duplicitous world where nothing is ever as it seems and the line between good and evil is constantly blurred. Spurred into action by the promises of a trusted relation, Dante bursts into this world intent on revenge at any cost. DmC will retain the series’ signature mix of sword and gunplay but add additional weapons, all new powers and a revitalised gameplay system as players encounter the game’s devilish mix of enemies and navigate the rich, interactive environment. A true collaboration, DmC sees the team at Ninja Theory joined by key staff from Capcom’s R&D division. Creative direction for the title will be undertaken by Ninja Theory’s Tameem Antoniades and overseen by Hedeaki Itsuno, who has worked on all previous titles in the series. DmC is being co-produced by Capcom’s Japanese and North American development operations."

Now, there are a few things to take note from that:
1) "the promises of a trusted relation" - Virgil?
2) "intent on revenge at any cost" - Revenge? What for? Well, on IGN it states that "the story is following Dante's revenge for his MOTHER". Wasn't she sacrificed or something?
3) "DmC will retain the series’ signature mix of sword and gunplay..." - That.

So. Now. Chill, and wait for gameplay.

Cheers,
Hisshi.

Well how much of a safety those 3 original team members are depens on what games they previously worked on and what roles they had. For all we know they could be two inbetween-animators and the bloody janitor from DMC2 :P

DMC2 wasent that bad, especially when it was DMC2 that introduced the stylish movement for Dante when it came to gunslinger, agile manuevers and recovering from a hit...etc.
Obviously DMC2 did a few things right or else they wouldnt bring it back to DMC3 or 4.

Also, DMC1 and DMC2 has the best music in any DMC game, I just cant stand the loud screaming metal music, just annoys me alot, especially the ones from DMC3, and DMC4 had just repetitive battle music which was getting tiresome.

I would accept this...

Let the combat be handled by Capcom, story and mo-cap...etc. by Ninja Theory then everyone can be happy.
And with enough bitching we might be able to make the devs change "Dante'" look. Now I dont mind him being with black hair, but everything else has to change.
IMO, Dante from DMC2 look the best because he really looked badass in that one.

Sath: ofc there were elements that carred over from DMC2, does that mean that it was a good game? Hell no. The combat was easy, mashy and boring, the story was a complete joke and the characters were terrible. Some ideas were good but poorly executed and were improved upon GREATLY in 3. DMC 3 has a really, REALLY good main theme that fits the game like a glove. Some of hte boss tunes are also pretty damn cool. Also where was there any metal in DMC3? I hear a lot of break beats and synths with a few shoddy guitar samples used, but certainly no metal :)

I agree that the regular combat music with lyrics gets a bit grating after a while, but you can always turn the music down and substitute your own.

I didnt think DMC2 was that bad, I liked playing as Dante because how agile he was compared to DMC1 and how he had this "gunslinger" style, so thats awesome.
Lucia...well I liked her design and her daggers, she has potential if she comes back (which I know she wont).

Story...meh.

Music, very bad, not my type.

All DMC games has metal/rock style in it, but they also have these ambient, orchestra, gothic type of music too, unfortunetly, almost all of them use metal/rock music during combat and that is just annoying to me and ruins my mood for playing it.

DMC1 and 3 certainly has no metal in them, more guitar stuff in DMC2 but still. So much focus on the break beats and weird synth effects that i wouldn't call it metal either. Then again, you only like symphonic movie and game scores, so...you know, you opinion of the music is perhaps not the most valid one :P

See if you played DMC 3 you'd understand why DMC2 eats. But even so, the combat was so much tighter in DMC1 as compared to 2, you can tell that the team that made DMC2 and 3 hadn't really got it nailed the first time. Seems to me that it being flashy and cool is more important to you than tight gameplay.
