Also, Ryu has a personality, but he doesnt talk much but he definitely has a deep story all the way back from NES (dont forget DS), he doesnt say much at all.
The reason why he is a badass is because he doesnt need to crack jokes, make comments that are "witty". He knows his enemy is going to die so he doesnt need to stall time with nonsense.

He shows his personality through his actions, with small talk here and there.

DMC3 Dante is the worse one in terms of design and personality, though combatwise, I heard its the best one.

IMO Dante from DMC1, 2 and 4 is the best one. He is older, "wiser", and just looks more serious for his old than DMC3 Dante which looks like he is a big Twilight fan LOL

I have no real attachment to DMC( that pic of Dante from 3, I think, still looks gay, so it's kinda a null point) so maybe that's why this doesn't bother me. In a world where everyone always bitches about sequels being the same, I'm surprised at the hate here. Personally I think this looks very cool( not crazy about the cigarettes, but as long as it's not a vehicle for "cool"*cough*vanquish*cough*, I can live with it). The look is one rarely seen done by Western devs, and the character looks to have some depth at first glance. I like how he moves too- a sense of weight. It's almost like a fallen angel sort of vibe for me. Oh, and for the peanut gallery, I hate Emo shit as much as the supposed next guy...

Some of them (me included) dont mind the re-imagination, but we are annoyed how Dante looks like.
He has absolutely no similairities to Dante.

Now if this was a NEW character in DMC universe you play as such as Nero, then fine, I am okay with that.
But when you re-design him with such overhaul and call him "Dante" in DMC then you know that is wrong.

Correct me if I am wrong, but Dante never smoked and trying to be "cool" while smoking.

Only savior in this genre so far is Platinum Games and Team Ninja with Ninja Gaiden.

As a first impression I dont like this design very much, its ok at best.
Who knows maybe later down the line I start changing my mind the more I see him in action and can tolerate it.

@ SATH yeah NINJA GAIDEN series is the best there is. RUY H. is just badass. i dont know about this, if the gameplay is solid then i give it a try because gameplay is the the most important thing in those kind of game. dont care about the story. will be BS like the other DMCS i guess. best example BAYONETTA( awsome GP shitty story)

Time to skip to something else. Doesn't look at all like it's aimed at DMC followers. Could still be a decent game, don't get me wrong. I (and most of the fans, it seems) just wouldn't want DMC to be like this.

Why all the anger people? This is not Capcom's DMC. This is Ninja Theory's take on the DMC universe.

Maybe if you guys tried to see what is there..instead of comparing it, u'd actually like some of it.

I understand what Ninja Theory is trying to do here..atleast judging from that trailer. I can say that as with many stories there are re-imaginations of stories/characters that are blatantly so different from their original source that it makes it something on its own...which should be seen as that and nothing more.

They are not trying to continue the DMC-story here. They are creating another one. A different dimension..another world.....a different story with a different Dante...not the one we know.

I love the original crow movie, but there are different versions of that universe too. One where sherry even isn't there at all.

So again this is not something that should be compared to DMC. Ofcourse u have the right to do so if you want.

I for one...love this...and will love it even more in the future!

then they shouldnt have called it DMC in the first place. if they wanted to avoid comparrison, you would have thought they'd have been smart enough to start up a new IP. but this is capcom we're talking about, i dont think they've made a smart choice this entire gen. throwing away licenses to western devs and seeing them look, perform, play worse then their original japanese counterparts (dead rising, bionic commando, this) or they just throw out utter crap in general (lost planet, resi 5) capcom have gone from being one of my fave devs to one of the complete and utter worst.

Look, i'äm sorry but obviously, much like Simon said in teh shoutbox, the irony of Dante in DMC3 is lost on you. That aside, all the things that you think makes Dante cool in your description you assign yourself, the game never alludes to especially much. He is just as much of a asshat in DMC1, he just acts a little "cooler". The wisecracking is still there and you can clearly see that they young Dante is derived from the DMC1 Dante. had you actually played DMC3 instead of just assuming a lot of stuff you'd see that there is a character arc for Dante in teh game, and that he is not quite the same cahracter at the end of the game as the beginning. You are assuming a lot for someone who has not played the game.

Ryu has a eprsonality? A blank stare and a sharp sword is hardly personality. And no, he doesn't show his personlity through action, because all he does is kill shit on his revenge quest. Sorry, but crashing a blimp into a mountain and slaying demons is not a personality trait, nor does it elevate any such other than his machine like focus on vengeance. Ryu is just barely a character, the fucking villains have more backstory and personality than the protagonist. He is not a badass character, he is a badass moves-set that you project your own image of a cool personality upon. It's not the same.

I have a weakness for characters with mental issues. Makes them more I dunno...human.

Different from all that mainstream happy characters who are heroes with a big smile on their face as if killing something is normal and fun.

There should be room for these kind of games/characters. Darker..depressing..yes you may call it emo if you want...Im not a user of that word and I dont find this Dante to be emo period, so to each his/her own.

I think no one can say per fact that his character looks like crap. What a person can say is that its his/her opinion. Ofcourse thats what all of you guys mean so....we're cool on that.

Again people...I say this is a Ninja Gaiden (NES) fan and as DMC fan (played all of them multilple times )...I luuuuuvvvv the character desing and the art style...to me he showed more personality in that trailer alone than many other game protagonists.

I am sure that in time that feeling will only grow.

While I don't disagree it's kind of absurd to assert that Dante looks any less "gay" than this new protagonist. Not a series I ever got into much, I played number 3 on PS2 up to a point and then it's grinding repetition pissed me off...

Devil may cry now apparently has a former boy band member that discovered the joys of crack cocaine as a protagonist, can't say i have high hopes for this.
Ninja theory is a vastly overrated developer, heavenly sword was a pretty but unpolished mess.
I still hope it will be good but i'll remain skeptical for now.
