At a steady 30fps, he had argued, that they could more than double the fidelity because the margin of error is smaller. I wouldn't bet against Doom 4 having a lot of small, closed in areas either, hence they may be able to pack more stuff into small self contained areas. On how D4 will look... D3 actually still looks OK by todays standards. This being a game that that at 1280x960 w/4x MSAA 8xAF on a slightly OC'd 6800GT ran at nearly 60fps. D3 graphics and production quality was pretty good and everything was fairly detailed and solid. With the consoles being a bit faster than the 6800GT and id Tech5 having ditched stencil shadows as well as making better use of texture resources (and, for those who hated the ol' skool fps gameplay, some evolutionary gameplay) I don't see why D4 cannot be a good looking and scary game. They may not break any significant gameplay barriers but D3 had pretty good production values. Improving some gameplay design flaws (monster closets, repetitive backtracking) it could actually redeem id some. Could... --- |
