All of that from the first 2 mins they picked out to unveil the game - and supposedly blow us away- with yes.

If the rest of the game addresses these points I stand corrected (with a big happy smile on my face), but I think we both see the unlikelyness of that happening.

As I said, this isn't really about the game being disappointing in itself. I know that expecations and wanting coffee to taste like lemonade is IDIOTIC and frustrating to other people, so I'm not *really* suggesting it'd be better off the way I describe. I'm just lamenting the fact that I - personally - can't muster enthusiasm at the thought of playing a game with no hopes of surprising me with stuff other than a more developed storyline that I STILL will have a difficult time appreciating when played out by these meatheads.

I loved Gears' gameplay but I've played it so much I'd need more than the usual slight visual upgrade and continued narration as incentive here.

I should prolly just keep out of the thread and let people be upbeat and happy about it though. I really don't live by my own code do I? :/

I couldn't believe there was 5 pages on that news item. I read one and gave up.

This does look really good and if people were expecting a large graphical jump, well, that is just silly. I'm glad they are adding more gameplay mechanics rather than just a fresh coat of paint and some new locations. Did anyone else notice they had changed the sound effects for the lancer as well? It sounds more intense now. Hopefully they will release some info about multiplayer soon.

Yup, I give up too. People are ridiculous. I'll sort through it later and figure out if anyone needs to be banned. I can't believe I actually took part in that "conversation" in the first place. I quit, they win, for now.

A fair critique I'm sure, but I'm mostly interested in what Gears of War has to offer in its solidly stellar gameplay.. which is both solid, and stellar. The beautiful thing about Gears of War is that the truly unique aspects of the game as just little touches that add to the overall brilliant nature of a perfectly cooked beast. It's just how well everything comes together.

They changed the recipe, but I suspect the meal will be even better this time. There is clearly more than just a "slight visual upgrade" here to back all of that up, it's a subject that's been tossed around all week. There will be plenty of compelling new pieces of gameplay that will make this stand out as a sequel in ways that some franchises only dream of.

Hell, everyone went ape shit over Halo 3, and while I think it's a fantastic game, you can't deny that it follows pretty safely in the footsteps of its predecessor. I think we're getting more than just a new weapon balance and a single new gameplay element to play with (not to underplay those wonderful non-gameplay improvements to Halo 3, or the revised game modes).

I do indeed agree with Simon and it's not because I love JRPGs or I love colorful art direction or any usual excuses that you always bring up! Gears of War, was one of my MOST PLAYED games on the xbox 360 and is a BRILLIANT GAME but what that video shows is strcitly the SAME game! It tries to wow us with BIG Creatures and more Enemies on screen but this has become a Norm in games this generation. They really need top start thinking out of the box!

Disagree all you want but this time I aint giving up! THAT trailer is DISAPPOINTING to me and accept that because it is my OPINION!

It's six months before the game hits (and the footage is several weeks old)and it's already absolutely perfect 30fps, so I'm sure they'll add some small touches to that level to make it look even better. Oh and chainsawing enemies will be incredible now.

I would agree with that, but also remeber that these guys saw a few different levels and much more footage, so they seen plenty of stuff we did not see in this trialer.

I have compared the hi-res magazine shots to snippet shown here and they look similar, so if the other sections and levels shown in the GI magazine scans also look similar in motion then we are all in for a visual and gameplay treat when its shown. I thought the snippet shown in this trailer was just amazing, its so blatantly better in every department than GOW1, all the little touches come together to make it better by far

It's a sequel, so it makes sense that it'd be similar. Aside from new creatures, more enemies, bigger battles - what would you have them do?

I feel outraged, a game delivers on promises of bigger, more and more, ie GOW 2, bigger levels, MORE enemies, BETTER lighting, and DESTRUCTIBLE environments... and ALLL that LOOKS GREAT, with TRIED AND TESTED BRILLIANT GAMEPLAY. YET some people manage to compare it to something and say its not...

I LOVE HALO 3, BUT THESE 2 GAMES ARE APPLES AND MOON ROCKS... SOOO DIFFERENT, DONT EVEN BOTHER COMPARING....

BTW, some of the people that are critiquing what looks like a flawless trailer from the promises also critique anything else, there IS NO PERFECT game, and if you say GTA4... i might lose it...

GOW2 promissed more of GoW 1, if you did not like/love gow 1, WHY the hell did you wish they would make GOW2 to your liking, GOW 2 is for the people that really like the 1st and want MORE, and WE WILL BE GETTING MUCH MORE.

EDIT: BTW Simon, didnt you mind in the 1st GoW that the Locust were only coming in in groups of 4-5.. "not much of a locust" well, enough on screen for you there?

Amazing, the SP is going to be really interesting, and on a bigger scale.

But MP is what im mostly interested on, waiting for info on it :)

Anyway dont know what people expected from this...
Its Gears 2, a sequel, what they wanted a new game? Like what people were expecting from Graphics? Its same engine, so it wont change much, just some improvements.

The gameplay was great, MP also. It was actually the best game i played online on a console.

Gears 2 is going to be as Cliff says: Bigger - Better - And more Badass. Perfect words to describe it :)

Just think of it like this ... The fact that people go through all the effort to bash the Gears 2 trailer, clearly shows that the trailer had a pretty big effect on them. Heck, they may even see this 360 EXCLUSIVE as a threat to whatever game they hope comes out on top.

I mean like Urukhai said and others have said countless times, what were people expecting? It's the same engine used so there was never going to be a drastic improvement in the visuals, and why would they change the gameplay that was so well received by fans and critics alike? Nonetheless I don't think they could have improved the visuals more than they have, and the features that we've seen so far are brilliant (Meat shields? Hell yeah!). There's just a bigger, more intense feel to it.

So, whilst idiots spend the time thinking of insults or criticisms that are really baseless, we'll be having the time of our lives chainsawing some fugly Locusts. ;)

Imho there negativity in almost every game's topic on this site lately.. Looks like some people think there's something to whine about with every single game and every single game sucks in some way.. Advise to those people, find another hobby you do like because gaming obviously isn't one of them if you think every game sucks..

Every game offcourse has it's negative points, but Gears of War in the end was a great game (I especially enjoyed the SP co-op a lot), and Gears of War 2 obviously will only be better.. A sure buy for me.. Together with Fable 2 it's probably the only consolegame I'm planning to buy this year (atm)..

Agree 100%

Most GoW fans I know really only wanted bigger battles with more enemies and a few little additions for the sequel. None were expecting a huge leap in graphics because there's really no need for it at this time.

I played the game I think 2 times by myself, the rest 2-3 times was helping my friends for COG tags, but after that I tried MP, and I quite the game and moved on.

Same.

I think it looks awesome as expected, and the sense of action in the video is pretty amazing.

It's not my genre of choice really so I'm not surprised I got bored with the first so fast, looks great for those who were fans of the first one though :D

Well its kind of hard not to get drawn into something like that, especially when its over a game you like.

It is deffinately looking better than the first though graphically and emmersively, and that quite an achievement, the bit where you look over and see all the little bastards on the ground below was pretty amazing.

Is there a 720p direct feed of this yet ?
