2008-05-02 00:24:39 GOW2 - G4TV PAX Multiplayer Hands on

I'll spoiler tag it for thoes that dont want the trailer spoiled (then again this could be all wrong?)

Here’s a lowdown on what is expected to be shown off by the bunny loving carrot munching Cliffy B for GT.

The gameplay is right off the level shown off to Game Informer, as they put it “A tiny hamlet deep in the mountains”, the entire map has more colors than a beautiful spring day.

We will get our very first look at the much touted Chainsaw duels. The duels are going to feel pretty natural with due credit to the new Unreal 3.5 engine and all the
other additional stuff being added on.

It starts off with revving up the chainsaw , like the previous game but moves into a high octane mode by drawing the enemy into a the field of battle, the camera pans in for a close up and we are to witness two huge figures each wielding staggering amounts of pure steel thrown into each others face. As the sparks fly on screen, the rest of the duel depends on how fast you can mash the buttons that appear on-screen within the time limit.If all goes well then you have the option of killing your foe by sawing off his head, thrusting the chainsaw into his body and moving it upwards to split the poor locust into two pieces or emptying an entire clip into your battered opponent. Lose the battle and the same treatment is pelted out onto you by the locust, but there is an option of reviving the fight by using your fists and legs to desperately hold on as your teammate arrives to rescue you.

The number of enemies on screen should have increased with a battlefield commander coordinating the locust’s actions, making the player shift strategies and move through the map rather than stick to a single position and use the technique of pop and shoot. The game has to be more interactive than the previous one especially with the new weapons which are a joy to use, am guessing an “chain spike grenade” to be used, which when thrown at enemies wraps itself around the victim, there might be an option to either perform a melee or detonate the grenade enjoying bits and pieces of your captive being thrown strewn about all across the screen.

There are bikes expected in the game given the size of the map, and these mean road hogs are expected to look devastating in comparison. Think Brute Chopper from Halo 3. The Derrick will be shown off in motion against an opponent who probably resembles the “Nazgul” from the LOTR series.

the high res scans look amazing, but i need to see it in motion, the guys at gameinformer went nuts over the gameplay demo they were shown.

I get the feeling that Sony decided to push back KZ 2, just to avoid a direct confrontation with Gears of War 2 IMO, just in case the game turns out to be really awesome :P
Can't wait really to see the first footage.

Well, I'd rather release KZ2 earlier then, If I were Sony !
From what we've seen so far, KZ2 looks great, but I must admit I trust Epic much more than Guerilla.
Given that they've been able to implement splitscreen in UT on 360, I want to see what they've managed to reach with Gears2. Want to see NOW actually !

If anything, I think it'd be too crowded put in with Resistance 2 around the same time frame on the PS3.

Maybe not for you sath, but for millions of others it did!! I cant wait and if the better GOW1 by just 30-50%, then were in for one hell of a ride as the first was brilliant.

No probs. i guess there going to show just us a snippet and divulge more and more info as the release date approaches, but i'm with you i want to see it now!!

I agree they would just cannibalise each others sales, but from what i've seen from rofm2 im not impressed.

Really ? resistance 2 looks good, though we've seen no gameplay yet. I like the way the ps3 renders, it's less clinical than the 360 (AAA exclusive at least).
Poor KZ2 is going to disappoint because there is no way in can be on par with its infamous trailer. If it were, I'd get myself a PS3.
I like the way Epic promotes its Gears : gameplay, gameplay, gameplay and almost no CGI/in engine trailers.

Let me put it this way.

Gears of War was great, yes.
But it was so short that the "ride" was not that much to enjoy.

All the talk about their story of this and that, most of it wasent even in it, that you had to read online.

But from the interviews and such, it seems they will reveal much of its hidden subjects that we all kept talking about.

Gameplay will be the same, so I wont be expecting much. The gameplay was fun for sure. But because the lack of levels and the short game, it got boring.

The MP was a shotgun, sniper, grenade fest, mostly sniper and shotgun, so that got boring. I never liked the MP part so I skipped it.

The new addition of 4 player co-op (4 right?) will be very cool!

But from their add ons to the UE3 with some environment destructions , better lighting to see more detail, more environment scales, more locusts...it seems very good.

I am excited for it sure, but not like how I was when Gears of War was first revealed before its launch.

I do like the new character designs though, unique looks, not your basic design for sure.

With rofm2 im not talking graphics (i thought the scans were nice) im talking about the multiplayer clip they showed yesterday, i thought it was bland and boring, hopefully the single player steps up, i will have a ps3 this yr sometime as mgs4 is out and it would be nice to have a AAA shooter to add to my ps3 library, but i have a feeling i'll be waiting for KZ2 before that itch can be scratched.

all gameplay will not be the same, but the core will remain the same as is the case for any good franchise, im sure rofm core gameplay will remain the same also.

Gears multi-player is fantastic. Host advantage, blah, blah.. like that's not an issue with any of these p2p games. It was very fun, and it has some of the best joy-pad handling available in any shooter--if not the best. And the gore, the beautiful gore!

Atleast it had a very good online with perks, weapon customization...etc. that keeps you going.

I do hope they add some sort of new features to the gameplay though, I read that they have this "screen press" battles for fighting against who will get the biggest strength to chainsaw someone when the weapons clash together, so thats cool and I hope they show it.

You do realize that GOW1 multi player was one of the best things about it and was given top marks by nearly all top gaming sights out there right? anyway i think what your trying to say is for YOU it was not good, not that GOW1 multiplayer was not good.

I'm not sure if the chainsaw mini-battle button press game is real or not, or just someone guesstimating how they think it will play? hope to fine out in the next couple of weeks :)

Well what do you expect, when I say something I always talk for myself not for others. I am not like other people who keeps need saying "imo" after each line.

No I thought the MP was decent, but not as good as people saying it is, so I didn't bother with it.

That is what I hope they show in the gameplay against a AI. Atleast we can get a glimpse of how this duel chainsaw works and looks.
