Here is the list of multiplayer modes for GTA:IV which was in PSM3 magazine. I can promise you this isn't an April Fool ;)

If you see this list elsewhere on line, you might see the number 16 players mentioned...please bear in mind that won't be for every mode.

Really really can't say any more save that you should consider buying this game as it delivers ;)

Cant wait for this game been reading previews when come out sounds amazing so hyped for this game like every GTA really.

Free roam is a mode where you can free roam.....and well........you pretty much roam around, freely.....it doesn't cost you anything. Like, you don't pay. Free roam.

It is a little like Verizon's free roaming, you don't pay. For example, if someone tells you, "you can roam around" but that's it, there might be a catch 22 there. But this is FREE roam.

Here's the scientific formula: Free + Roam = Free Roaming

anyway. i've heard freeroam could be just a glorified chat room, where your free to just blow shit up and couse mayhem in the full city. if its ANYTHING like that, then thats sweet as. i do kinda wish there was a co-op mode. thats pretty much the only exclusive DLC rockstar could offer for the 360 that would make me buy it. expansion packs dont interest me in the slightest.

Anyway im looking at what are you restricted to in this feature ie is there Co Op are you restricted to one part of map etc etc.

I have heard some mixed things not all is explained very well like i heard you can share a car and drive around with friend but nought else was said giving me the opinion some kind of Co Op is in.

Agreed that was absolutely horrible, horrific even.

Anyway, so if its multiplayer that means that you can play as different characters?? Maybe even a create a character section??? Doubt it, but you never know, i had a dream that you could play as any player you wanted just last night, how sad was that, anyway, it got me thinking, what if you can actually create your own character just rockstar haven't told us so, like Mass Effect with the generic Shepherd (niko) and then you customize your own character.

Would be nice, but very unlikely

haven't read many previews so bit of a shock to see no manual aim assigned to the right stick (unless zoomed). crackdown had the best use of auto/manual aim IMO.

EDIT: on closer inspection... it says on R2, free aim (half hold). never seen that used before. EDIT 2: yeah i have. MGS2

Might be tricky for those with 'lead' fingers, but I think it'll become second nature... I'm liking the car controls being on the triggers, that's become quite the norm these days

I think saints row had the free aim down to a tee imo, and thats comming from someone who never plays a FPS on consoles because i think its dumb and can't even imagine to describe my strife with aiming with a controller

"To coincide with the release of GTA IV, Rockstar will be launching a brand new website called the Rockstar Social Club. Registration for the club opens up on April 15th (mmm, tax day here in the US..), and it will apparently feature all kinds of multiplayer leader boards and stat tracking.
Rockstar Social Club

On top of the standard multiplayer ranking stuff, a press release sent out by Rockstar lists the following features.

* LCPD Police Blotter - A virtual map and tracker of single-player criminal activity logged in Liberty City from the aggregated data of millions of connected players - showing the most dangerous areas of town, most commonly used weapons and more.

* The Story Gang - This special single-player leaderboard recognizes players who complete Niko Bellic's main story arc of Grand Theft Auto IV - The leaderboard ranks players according to the total amount of playing time it's taken to complete the story, as well as a historical rank by who has completed it first. Members of this club will receive special online widgets and merit badges marking all of their in-game accomplishments.

* The 100% Club - Watch to see who will be the first to complete 100% of the game. The first ten people to be identified on the Social Club as reaching 100% will be sent an ultra-rare commemorative 'key to the city' to mark their accomplishment. In the future, the 100% Club will then carry a historical leaderboard showing rankings of who has completed 100% of a game in the shortest span of playing hours.

* The Hall of Fame -- This area will dynamically recognize those singularly elite players who have reached the top of the hill on various statistical leaderboards, and will also contain a personal awards display of special in-game landmarks and successes in Social Club competitions.

* The Liberty City Marathon -- A ranking of special physical milestones achieved in the game - from the amount of miles walked, driven, or swam - to the number of bullets fired and stunt-jumps jumped. There will be additional special marathon-based competitions in the future from this area as well."
