This is actually the first time I get to play this game, and it actually won my Game I Haven't Played of The Year award of 2006.

I'm a sucker for rythm games, and it's hard to beat a knee slide "Star Power" solo in the genre so far I must say. It might not have the exotic appeal of something like Beatmania's many "I've never heard this in my life" jpop/electronic stuff, but it does give you an eerie sense of being in the role of a lead guitarrist that sometimes has you rocking out a bit more than a piece of plastic should (or you'd imagine would).

People were telling me how difficult 2 is to get into if you haven't played the first, but I think a little bit of experience with the likes of Amplitude and Beatmania has you covered.

Don't shy away from this game because it's "old" - it's quite frankly awesome.

About time someone made this thread. Seriously, is no one playing this damn game? I haven't had a chance to pick it up yet, but I have played the 360 version and it is the best version of one of the best rhythm games released in a long time. The addition of leader boards alone is enough to make this the best version out there.

And I never played the first one Simon, so I'm not sure I agree.. seems like a pretty easy game to get into personally. I noticed that stand alone guitar controllers seem to be hard to find -- are they just out of stock everywhere? If I pick this up soon (hopefully very soon) I would love to grab another guitar for it.

If the $90 price tag is putting you off, just search for some good deals. A deal for $76 (shipped!) was posted on CAG more or less the day it came out -- though I think that offer is long gone now. I'm looking for a good sale myself. $90 for GH2 is a bit steep for my cheap ass.

I got this yesterday for half price (£36!) and never played the first one either. Loving it so far, not had any problems getting into it.

I'm a bit more into the beat this week thanks to my Boom Boom Rocket obsession but clearly I've got a long way to go before I'm any kind of Guitar Hero. I certainly think this has the potential to be the best version if the DLC is reasonable, and if, they could sort out multiplayer over live.

The nature of the game makes that very difficult though.

Still I'll be rocking away quite merrily over Easter :)

I would like to test this game but it is just too expensive to buy. I have already ordered two games (Elite beat agents and Gitaroo man) so I think thats enough rhythm games for some time.

Very good game, although the first one had a better playlist. I hope they will release a lot of those songs on marketplace.

haha, same here. Picked it up yesterday and have been playing it almost non stop. First time I have played Guitar Hero and I have to say it is incredibly fun and challenging. I do pretty good on medium(mostly get 3 or 4 stars) but I get totally killed on anything higher. My only complaint is the guitar is way to small for me and it cramps my hand pretty badly after a few songs.

Guitar for the PS2 was a tad smaller so this one was a welcome change for me. I'm pretty ace on most songs on Medium. I can get 5 stars on most except Hangar 18 and Mad House. The difficulty jump from medium to hard is huge though.

Well, what I really meant to say was that my experience with Amplitude/Frequency and Beatmania like games made this really easy to get into for me, I must've been interrupted mid sentence because that's now how it came out. :)

I wouldn't know how the game comes across for someone completely un-initiated, but I imagine it actually IS a bit more steep than for instance Frequency.

I have it for PS2 (just beat it on Expert, wooo!), but my friend just got it for his 360. Still haven't tried out the guitar.

If you guys find it hard to hit the red/blue chord try sliding your hand down the neck to hit it with the index and ring finger. It really helps to move your fingers to different keys.

I got GH2 today. Its fun, but its really hard for me. I'm on easy, and press the buttons and strumming is getting to me. I'm not a hardcore rocker, in fact I don't even listen to much of it. Good song selection though. Wish they had some Hendrix. All Along the Watchtower would be tight.

Well they did have "Spanish Castle Magic" in the first Guitar Hero, so I wouldn't be surprised if they added it to GH2 later on, as DLC.

Those are two pretty awesome games too.. Gitarooman is awesome. I just wish it were longer. GH2 has what, 70 tracks in it? More content and a special controller sorta justify the price.. but I guess that doesn't make it any less expensive.

Hmm if it has even half of the amount you said it is indeed good value with the controller. I have to look again this game in next month after all the school works are done.

I've got it! Its awesome.

I played the first one a bit at a friends house, so this one wasn't too hard to get in to. I just wish the fret board was a little longer. Feels a bit cramped at times.

I've been playing quite a bit since i got it on friday, I've almost finished on easy. 3 more songs to go.

Ha ha! I tried Them Bones on Expert just to see how hard it was though, I failed after 9%. :(

It IS a lot easier if you have had actual experience with playing a guitar though, one of my friends had, and he totally decimated us all on the first one.

Yeah, it's easier in terms of finger coordination for sure, but somehow I still find it incredibly difficult once you start using the orange button. There's just no super obvious way to tell when they want you to slide around and when they want you to just overlap.

Just finished medium and hard is giving me a suitably hard time.. :)

I'm getting better with Medium, I can now get 4 or 5 stars on all the songs except a few of the harder ones lower on the list. I still can't play on hard for shit though, orange button just screws me up.
