I may be really drunk right now, which I am
But I will say, I think the swim before last was a bit rigged. I don't know, to me Cavic (not sure if that's right), touched before Phelps.

He most definitely did not touch before phelps. I even rewinded it countless times on my tivo to make absolute sure.

This is what happened. The serbian swimmer clearly stuck his hand out well before Phelps did, but that was a mistake because he got complacent at the very last minute hoping to cruise into the wall. Meanwhile, phelps was still in the process of doing another stroke and Phelp's hand exploded to the wall BARELY touching before the other guy did. The underwater view best showcases that Phelps clearly won it.

There is no disputing that the other guy reached his hands out first, but Phelps was definitely the one to touch first and I've ran the thing over and over in super slo mo so of this I have no doubt. I wouldn't have felt good about Phelp's win if I couldn't clearly see for myself that he had won.

A very similar thing happened today to Dara Torres of the USA. She appeared to have the gold won, but the girl from Australia managed to barely get the wall before she did so Torres ended up with the Silver.

This video right here proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that phelps won.

http://www.metacafe.com/watch/1629971/phelps_7th_g...

Look at the very beginning of the video with the underwater view. The overhead view is harder to see, but this proves it. Phelps on the right touched before the guy on the left who thought he could just cruise into the wall while phelps exploded into the wall.

Yep the first 7 seconds of that video shows it clear as day. Not only can it be confirmed via visual confirmation by anyone looking it can also be confirmed by the high speed cameras that are able to track who touched first.

Pretty much, first 7 seconds you'll notice one hand hit the wall hard and before the other. No matter how many different ways that underwater view could be seen, there is no instance in which the guy on the left beats phelps on the right to touching the wall. The guy on the left simply stretched his hand out first.

It's also called "Beneath the Surface"

So that's also something to think about! :P

The next book I'll be recommending is the one detailing Phaethon's meteoric rise to the top of the male porn industry.

It's unfortunate that swimming is one of those sports that nobody gives a damn about save for competitors' family members.

That was most definitely true, until very recently. I don't know the guy, but I must say I'm extremely happy for the guy and his family. Just saw an interview and he was mentioning how people use to pick on him and bully him and all this other stuff and so it's always good to see him now in a position where he can showcase to such people that, despite all the crap that they gave him, he ended up just fine.

No op, outside the Olympics, "no one" really cares about swimming at all. Are you truly going to anticipate swimming events now? I highly doubt it. It is very exciting to see Phelps swim, and gymnastics etc etc, but it isn't something I would watch at any other time than the Olympics.

And now that swimming seems to be over, well, that time to completely ignore swimming has come.

I didn't say I was going to start anticipating swimming events, but this is the first time I've actually cared about any olympic sport besides track & field much less to actually be supporting a specific swimmer that I know by name and not simply by which Country he represents.

Ron didn't say outside the Olympics. He said that nobody gave a damn about swimming outside of the competitor's family members. I simply said that hasn't been true at all for this olympics. It would be hard for anybody that doesn't know them personally to claim they care just as much as the friends or family of the competitor would, but that isn't really the point.

I heard at the start of the olympics phelps was chasing something that many thought would be impossible to achieve and he managed to do it and I'm simply saying that's impressive and you gotta really acknowledge such an amazing accomplishment. No more, no less.

I could care less about random swimming events, but what I most definitely will anticipate from now on is specific events at the olympics in a way that I never did before as a direct result of how exciting the beijing olympics have been thus far. Opening ceremony was pretty badass.

8 gold medals was incredible, but the most amazing thing on the olympics was definitely 9.69s with victory pose in the last 10 metres. Would probably be ~9.4s without that :)

haha Lightning Bolt, he's incredible :)

Makes me proud to be a fellow Jamaican. If he's smart though he will quickly look for an opportunity to represent another Country as soon as possible in prep for the 2012 Olympics because Jamaica is not going to be safe for him. You would think that due to his Olympic gold medal win that more people in Jamaica will be filled with pride and happy for him, but it's quite the opposite. There are many there now thinking "How can I get a piece of what this guy has?" The level of jealousy there is sickening.

They know he'll get endorsements and money. There are many in Jamaica that will try to extort money from him and if they don't get it, they'll kill him. Jamaica, even though it's where I'm from, truly has been an embarrassment for many many years now. Myself and many others still believe that Jamaica should have never received it's independence because the level of corruption and violence down there is crazy. Almost everyone I know that is also from Jamaica is saying the same, he needs to present himself to another country and run for them because Jamaica, for him, just became a whole hell of a lot more dangerous.

The best part about this is that there is not a single Country that would turn him down. He could be running for the USA or anywhere else like England and quite a few others with an amazing contract. All he need do is ask. He'll have more opportunities, he and his family will be safer and eventually I think he will also come to that conclusion.

Yea it truly is incredible how easy he makes it look.

He is said to take 5 or 6 less steps than your average sprinter and does a number of things improperly like his habit for slowing down at the end and looking around at the other runners instead of running it all the way out and a couple of other technique related things that often get mentioned including his start. He could become even better with more practice.

He's totally new to the 100m he is far more practiced for the 200m, but at the last minute begged his coach to get him into the 100m because he felt strongly that he could win it and, of course, he and powell have a pretty big rivalry that many in Jamaica are always eager to see take place so Usain's entry into the 100m had as much to do with the hometown rivalry he has with Asapha as it did with the fact that he was confident he could win a gold in an event Powell has far more preparation in.
