Apart from the quality of the game...really interesting business strategy by Atari.
They are in deep trouble and what do they do? They´re publishing a racing game by Simbin, whose games on PC are critically acclaimed but have also sold more or less horribly. I wish the guys from Simbin all the best for this one but going from 10tacle (which I think are bankrupt) to Atari must be feeling like going from smoke to smother. I would have wished them to find a publisher that helps them to not only make a good game, but also a good selling game.

Which forza team admited was impossible for them to do, so accualy its pretty impressive! (as long as damage level is same or better!)

It should be great. SimBins simulations have always been among the best. Forzas and GT:s are way behind in simulating cars. Now, if only MS would allow to use G25 racing wheel on their console instead of their own, toyish wheel.

They didnt say it was impossible at all just that it would take far too long to do

well, Dan Greenawalt from Microsoft Game Studios said allot of bull**t that translated into "we can't do it". Due to the amount of customization available for every car in Forza 2 they wouldn't be able to have the amount of detail they put in other parts. If they added car cockpit view they would have to make so many different versions for every car (Weight Reduction Upgrades etc) + damage models it wouldn't all fit onto the game, and lets not talk about frame rate issues depending on amount of detail. So, in my words, I think it was impossible to do :)

My problem is that it's still pretty much looks the same engine that ran Sports Car GT way back in 1999. ISI may have updated it to DirectX 9 when they released R-Factor, but it still looked the same. This still looks like a slightly out of date PC game.

As for being a sim, well, yes it probably is. However there is something to be said for not being a true sim, it's something called fun and playability, which in my opinion I don't think any of the GTR games had. For the time I thought they were realistic, however, I really don't think they are anymore.

They're meant to be games, and they're meant to be fun, I just don't think these psudo-simulations are. For me, for all Greenwalts lies and underdelivering, I still think Forza 2 is the most fun I've had with a "simulation" game.

Oh an until we're all playing on super wideangled monitors, in game cockpit views will always be a cop out and again, for me unplayable. If you were to drive your car with the same field of view, you'd be driving with horse blinkers on.

But look at the production values of this game. They are basically porting the PC game, there are very little risks involved. They are not completely stupid.

The game, as far as graphics go looks very underwhelming, I'd say a straight damn port. And I highly doubt the physics will be redone or improved, this is looking like a PC leftover, and I don't think I dig that.

it's clear that you are not diggin sims. that's fair, but don't think that everybody is like you. And alot of people who are really into sim racing plays on multiple monitors, build their own seating cabinets etc. On top of that Forza 2 is nowhere near the sim sensation you get out of simbins games.

I can't wait to see how this one plays.

Yes, but not too many and not enough to actually earn money.

Simbin can continue to make these kinds of games, but they also need to make games that have a broader audience and sell outside of Europe.

The first explanation of why Forza 2 does not have a cockpit view (which should be standard in every racing game), is that the developpers considered it as 'not an immersive viewpoint'. If you don't believe me, check one of the first gamersyde diaries. But everybody knows that a cockpit view is the most immersive viewpoint, so that was a lame excuse. Forza 2 might have been a good game, but it lacked immersiveness and in the graphics department. If Simbin produces the same quality as they did on PC, this will be the best race sim on the Xbox 360.

Play 1-2 hours in GTR or RACE (1,2,3 etc), than sit and drive your car. same sh-it. Steering, brakes, over things (I cant find english words). This game teach how to drive safe and fast.

And Forza or other Need for Speed teach how to leave your brains on the road.

my english is bad, I know

look at the reflections, textures and draw distance (+ fisics that you cant see on pictures) --- thats not the same game.

If you truly believe that a game can make you drive safe and fast - STAY OFF THE ROADS!

Nice screenshots, but its almost impossible to judge a racing game from them.

Game will be great (only this graphic... but never mind).

I wanna game with simulation just like, for example in Richard Burns Rally (I know it isn't racing game because it's rally game but... never mind, it's AWESOME, for me the best simulator so far), with graphic from Gran Turismo 5: Prologue and visualisation of car damages from GRID :P and that would be perfect :)
